Mayer Center Study Tour 2015
May 31-June 15, 2015

Portugal & Western Spain
Organized by Dr. Donna Pierce and Rosa Ramírez Carlson

The 2015 Mayer Center Study Tour includes travel to Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals and monuments, Roman temples, castles, medieval villages and museums to see Old World art and architecture that influenced art and architecture in the New World. Cities on the itinerary include Lisbon, Evora, Caceres, Oropesa, Avila, Toledo, Merida, Guadalupe, Segovia and more. Spanish Colonial classes & lectures included.

Mayer Center Study Tour 2013
June 8-21, 2013

Barcelona, Valencia & Surrounding Areas
Organized by Dr. Donna Pierce and Rosa Ramírez Carlson

The 2013 Mayer Center Study Tour includes travel to Romanesque and Gothic monuments in Barcelona and Girona that influenced art in the Americas, Monastery of Montserrat, Gaudi monuments, Salvador Dali Museum in Figueres, Valencia (the ceramic capital of Spain), Costa Brava, Costa Dorada, the ancient city of Tortosa, winery visit, Spanish Colonial classes & lectures.

Andalusia & the Americas: Art, History & Language

The 2011 Mayer Center Study Tour includes travel to Ubeda, Granada, the Alhambra, Cordoba, Seville and Madrid.  Formal art and history classes will be taught by Dr. Donna Pierce and guest lecturers. If there is sufficient interest Spanish language classes will be conducted throughout the trip.

Mayer Center Study Tour 2008
May 20-June 4, 2008

Pilgrimage Art in Spain and the Americas:  Santiago de Compostela
Organized by Dr. Donna Pierce and Rosa Ramírez Carlson

This trip will follow the medieval pilgrimage route across northern Spain from the Pyrennes to Santiago de Compostela to study the impact of pilgrimage on the art of both the Europe and the Americas.  The group will follow the route of the pilgrims through the scenic Valleé d’Aspe in rural southern France, passing through the historic villages of Sainte-Marie Oloron, Accous, Sarrance, and Cette-Eygun.  The trip will continue over Somport Pass through the Pyrennes from France into Spain.  The group will stop in the medieval Spanish villages of Sos del Rey Católico, Puente de la Reina, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Astorga, Villafranca del Bierzo and visit the great pilgrimage cathedrals of the cities of Burgos, Leon and, the final destination of Santiago de Compostela.  Art and history classes, Spanish language classes and guest lectures will be held throughout the trip. The trip is SOLD OUT.

Mayer Center Study Tour 2005

Spain and the Americas: Art, History and Language
Organized by Dr. Donna Pierce and Rosa Ramírez Carlson

The 2005 Mayer Center Study Tour included visits to Avila, Salamanca, Ciudad Rodrigo, Valladolid, Zamora, Jarandilla de la Vera, Caceres, Trujillo, Guadalupe and Oropesa.  Formal art and history classes were taught by Dr. Donna Pierce, Spanish language classes taught by Jaime Gavin were available on a daily basis, and guest lectures were provided by Dra. Cristina Esteras, Dr. Jaime de Salas, Nancy Lopez, Tariana Navas-Nieves, and Conservator Kristy Jeffcoat.
